I was so blessed this past week to read the three psalms that we were assigned. To start my Monday out with Psalm 96 just set the tone for my whole week! Seriously! When you read words like that – what can this world possibly bring against you?
I loved Jesus’ last prayer in John 17. I am convinced that although He was praying for those disciples gathered with Him on this last night of His life – He was also looking down through time and He was praying for me. And you. All of us.
If you have not read Jesus’ interaction with Pilate in the Message I most heartily urge you to. You can almost hear the ho-hum blasé of Pilate as he questions Jesus. In John 18:37 he asks Jesus “Are you a king?” And Jesus answered, “I Am King” He didn’t say, I am a king, or I am the king, instead He phrased it so that any Jewish listener would understand that He was claiming His rightful title as God. The Jews called God “Yahweh” or “I Am” When Jesus said I Am King” He was declaring Himself God/King – the one true God, the one true King. I am going to tell you that when I read this, the hairs on my arms stood up.
By the way, if you do not have “The Message” go to www.biblegateway.com – under quick search put John 18 and then change the version from NIV to the Message. Click on Search the Bible, and you can read this chapter and get your own goosebumps.
