e-Bible Reading

e-Bible Reading Plan

I was really surprised at the story of Hezekiah in 2 Kings 20 and Isaiah 38-39. The healing was great – the shadow on the sundial turning back 10 degrees made me wish that I had been there to see that! But Heze’s attitude about the future of Israel being taken into captivity by Babylon and his sons being eunuchs in the palace of Babylon blew me away. It was so cold – I mean he put the religious spin on it – didn’t he? “If God says so, then it is good.” He sure didn’t believe that when he was dying did he? And then to say to himself – “oh well, it doesn’t effect me” is so callous towards his children!

I loved the picture of Jesus in Isaiah 42:1-4!

As I read Isaiah I was really surprised at the number of times the destruction of Babylon and the freeing of Israel was mentioned. It made me wonder if this was written after Babylon had taken Israel into captivity – or is it prophecy? That is my question for the professional Christian in small group this week.

What a blessing 1 Peter is – a lesson on the mature Christian life. But what struck me the most about reading this book is that this is Peter writing this. Speak first – think later Peter of the gospels, walking on the water, sinking below the waves Peter, impetuous, sword-swinging, ear-choppin’ Peter. I don’t know how many years after Jesus’ ascension this was written but the out-of-control disciple of the gospels has been changed into a calm, wise teacher and leader of the church. Praise God for the way the he changes us and molds us to be more like Him everyday!
