In 2 Kings 15 I ran across an interesting set of verses #11-12 about the promise of God being fulfilled to Jehu – that his sons would sit on the throne of Israel for 4 generations. Jehu was the man (2 Kings 1) who brought down the remaining family of Ahab and destroyed the temple of Baal. But he didn’t stop the worship of other idols – which brought about the overthrow of his family from the throne.
The tone of Hosea was set in the very first verse when it says “This whole country has become a whorehouse. The next chapters are a scathing commentary on Israel’s unfaithfulness to God – but then the 14th chapter when God calls to His people to return to Him even to the point of saying "I will heal their waywardness. I will love them lavishly. My anger is played out. I will make a fresh start with Israel.” When I read this my heart just breaks because I am no better than Israel – but God always takes me back – His mercies are new every morning.”
Jude was an interesting call to stay faithful to our faith. I read verses 17-19 and recognized our times in it. I am still considering Philemon – it doesn’t seem to say much about anything – but God wanted it in the Word – maybe this is my question for the professional Christian for this week!
Willie’s sermon this morning on Hebrew 1:1-3 was extraordinary. And then in Hebrews 3 – this statement: “So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He's the centerpiece of everything we believe, faithful in everything God gave him to do.” I hope that Willie continues in a series on Jesus – and I hope he gets to these verses! (hint, hint, Doc)
