e-Bible Reading
In the start of this last weeks reading we read about Jonathan’s committed friendship to David. This is an amazing friendship. Later on Jonathan admits to David that David - not Jonathan - will be the next King of Israel. However, this is also the start of the trouble between David and Saul. David has just killed Goliath and has joined the royal court of Saul, they are headed back to the palace and women in all the villages are singing about how Saul killed a thousand - but David killed ten thousand. Saul’s jealousy starts at that point. He tries several ways to get rid of David, including using his daughter as bait. The rest of the Samuel readings are about Saul’s pursuit of David. There is such a contrast between Saul’s murderous jealousy of David, and Jonathan’s great love and support of David.
Last weeks readings in 1 Chronicles continued with the genealogy’s - a tough read, But this week we will get back to the story!
In Matthew we were treated to the Sermon on the Mount. I love the way that The Message paraphrases the ending of that sermon in Chapter 7 “When Jesus concluded His address, the crowds burst into applause. They had never heard teaching like this. It was apparent that He was living everything He was saying - quite a contrast to their religious teachers! This was the best teaching they had ever heard!” For me this just re-emphasizes that living your faith out loud speaks volumes more that saying it out loud.
