e-Bible Reading

e-Bible Reading - April 16-22

Well, in our Bible reading this week, Israel got what they wanted - they got an earthly king and rejected the Eternal King as ruler over them. Saul was head and shoulders above th rest of them - he looked like a king. But be careful what you ask for - cause you just might get it! Saul started out well. They had to find him hiding in the luggage and force him to be king. But just a few short chapters later - Chapter 13 - Saul, after ruling for many years, decides to take matters into his own hands and sacrifices the burnt offerings instead of waiting for the priest Samuel. Samuel told him that God was already looking for his replacement - somebody that God would choose. Then Saul got even worse in his disobeying of God’s Words given through Samuel. Samuel once again chastised Saul, then left him. Saul never saw Samuel again - God had removed Himself that far from Saul.

Did you see who was in the lineage of Jesus in Chapter One of Matthew? There was Abraham and David and Solomon - great men of faith. But there is also Rahab the harlot whose faith helped to bring the downfall of Jericho: Ruth, the Gentile, whose faith caused her to follow her mother-in-law into a strange land where she became the great-grandmother of Israel’s greatest earthly king, and Bathsheba (called Uriah’s wife) the adulteress, whose faith caused her son, Solomon, to be kind after David. As an additional note: 1st Chronicles also starts out with a genealogy lesson
