THE EMPTY TOMB
by Ann Reed-Mead
The brightest star in God’s heaven plunged to earth one day.
It exploded in Jerusalem. On the streets the cinders lay.
While an ominous wind whistled on Calvary and dried blood stains
on a cross,
Men were left with ashes in hand while mourning for their loss.
Brightness was gone from their world. Broken were the dreams
they had dreamed.
Death had conquered. Hope was gone. Life was meaningless –
or so it seemed.
Then dawn broke forth with a problem. There was an empty tomb!
They couldn’t believe that He was alive, so their lives were
filled with gloom.
Then He appeared and allowed them to touch. Their doubts He did dispel.
“Christ the Lord is risen today.” Was the message they now could tell.
Today are we still grappling with unfulfilled hopes and dreams?
Have we not yet discovered that there’s more to life than our schemes?
The fact that Christ is risen is a message we cannot ignore,
And because He lives we, too, can live - now and forevermore!
