Bible Reading - April 9 to April 15th
This week I read the book of Ruth from the Message. It is such a tender picture of Christ’s great redeeming love for us. For the first time, I realized that Boaz, the kinsman-redeemer, was not a relative of Naomi, he was a relative of Naomi’s deceased husband - which gave him even less responsibility towards Naomi and particularly towards Ruth, who was not related to him at all - and even worse - a foreigner.
There is so much in our passages in 2 Corinthians that I scarce know where to start. Loved the passages in chapter 3 that dealt with factions in the church - and maybe even denominational differences. Bottom line - if it’s not about Jesus - then it’s not about nothin’. Chapter 5 is a hard chapter as it deals with sin in the Church. I agree with Paul that we cannot condone sin within the Body of Christ - but we have to be careful not to go overboard into judgmental behavior. Paul is clear that dealing with sin in the Body is a function of the Body - not of the individual.
I Samuel started us out with the birth & calling of Samuel, then went on to tell us about the corruption in the Tabernacle, the capture of the ark of God, and what happened to the Philistines who took it. This week we will read about the Israelites rejecting God as their King and their desire for an earthly king - and what a king they got! I think that this is where the saying “Be careful what you ask for” came from! We will also get started into 1 Chronicles. We will finish 2 Corinthians and move into Matthew.
