Local 'Goddess' Turns to Christ
Many would come to her hoping to receive wise counsel and advice. Many would come to her whenever calamities and illness befell. Many would come, but none received truth or grace.
Sunita was known throughout her village as an incarnation of a local goddess, believed to hold special religious powers. In other words, Sunita was a 'Mata.' Yet she didn't have any peace, and suffered from constant illness and worry.
During this time of great despair and uncertainty, Sunita was visited by some ladies from a Believers Church. These devoted sisters felt the Holy Spirit leading them to knock on her door. Sunita's house contained much paraphernalia for idol worship, but this did not deter the missionaries from speaking the truth in such a dark place. After the initial introductions, Sunita was given a Gospel tract and told about the healing power only offered through Jesus Christ.
Sunita received a Bible from them and searched the Scriptures daily. The ladies came back the next Saturday to find Sunita open to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They knelt down and prayed together.
Sunita did not accept the Lord immediately but began getting involved in a Believers Bible Women's Fellowship and attending church regularly.
Finally, on August 13, the angels rejoiced in heaven as two new children of God accepted His Son as their Savior. Both Sunita and her husband accepted the Lord in their hearts that day, and when they returned home they disposed of all their pagan religious items.
Coming to Christ in Asia involves much more persecution than one faces elsewhere. Because Sunita was a Mata in her village, she and her family will face much persecution and hardship. Please pray for God's protection over Sunita and her husband Rajen, and pray that they would stand firm in their newfound faith and be a powerful witness to those in the surrounding area.
