Gospel for Asia Update: God Gives Victory in Assam
After five months of tension and prayer, God has given Gospel for Asia's ministry in Assam a true victory!
In early March, leaders of a powerful insurgent force in far-northeastern India had made an extortion demand and threatened to totally destroy our work in Assam if they were not given more than $180,000.
Immediately, hundreds of thousands of believers around the world-possibly millions-began to pray for the situation. They prayed for the safety of our leaders, Bible colleges, churches and believers in Assam-and that God would touch the hearts of those making the terrible demands.
God's first answer to those prayers was that the insurgent group gave our leaders in Assam more time. They said they wanted to study the work and ministry of Believers Church among their people. Since then, there have been no more threats or incidents.
Yet tension remained, because no one knew what the final decision would be on the part of the insurgent leaders.
But early this week, God provided the answer in a very certain and unexpected way.
The problem ended when a larger paramilitary group in the area identified the one man behind all of the threats and warned him that if he did not stop harassing Believers Church, he would be killed.
"We praise the Lord that, unknown to us, He was using a non-Christian group to protect our churches, Bible colleges and workers from the harm threatened by another non-Christian group," said GFA President K.P. Yohannan. "And even as we praise God for the resolution of this situation, we also pray that the man who had threatened our work in Assam will come to know Christ as his Savior."
